BCM215: Project Pitch

Overview: Digital Artefact

The world is evolving fast in all aspects with an enhanced focus on how technological functions such as computation power and mobile technology happening to the leading sectors. Digital artifacting falls under the above mention class of technological milestones and thus the users and custodians of the function need constant updates on the novel advancements. However, it is evident that these updates on the users and knowledge workers are rarely implemented on time hence the necessity of studying the prevailing trends of the practice to examine the extent of the phenomenon and thus develop appropriate measure to counter the shortcomings positively identified. As such, this study aims at uncovering the extent within which the current state of the digital artifacting world needs a revamp. Ultimately, the study would be instrumental in improving the conditions of the knowledge world for both information workers and the users. This would therefore mean that digitally artifacting information would be a tad easier and a recommendable practice for different forms of institutions as it would make service delivery and execution a tad easier.

Digital Artifacting Trends

Digital artifacts are in way central to most organizational operations thus the gradual improvement of the sector happens to affect people and institutions whether they approve the changes or not. Nonetheless, technology is not considerate of these conflicting views of how it serves the world hence the need for knowledge workers as well as institutional settings that are heavily reliant on their documented databases in their operations to catch up with the visibly fast moving changes in the digital world since the information they store also happens to a currency they actively rely upon to conduct their business operations. Incidents such as the miniaturization of data storage units and invention of the cloud storage unit function are therefore of significance to the future and continuity of digital artifacts in all aspects as they make the practice a tad easier and convenient. Google photos offers all its email users fifteen gigabytes worth of storage whereas email hosting applications like proton assure their users of privacy while they exchange information with different correspondents. In the print world, the innovation of functions such as print-on-demand and electronically selling publications such as Barnes and Noble have made the traditional bookselling enterprises have to cope with competition with virtually based internationally based competitors.

LIBERO, POLARIS, VERSO, and ALEXANDRIA are some of the renowned library management soft wares used by most of the learning institutions and knowledge workers in place of a traditional catalogue which previously documented the documents within such establishments. In sum, the digital artifacting world is constantly getting upgraded by new innovations to better serve its target clientele as well as the managers of these systems better. Despite the improvements, the dynamic nature of information and the fact that information is continually getting created goes against the utility technology is constantly trying to undo. The fact that information users do not continuously get an educational update on the way to make use of the functionalities digital artifacts accord them is yet another challenge. (Walton, Childs and Jugo, 2019) supports this observation and is of the view that the custodian of information, repository mangers, need to put more effort into making the information within their jurisdiction useful. Ciriello et. al complements this observation recommending that users of digitally artifacted resources be furnished with an education on how to make useful the data within digitally oriented databases with a modernized appeal.

Digital Artifact Pitch

Project plan

The plan of this project is understanding and pointing out the challenges associated with digital artifacts which are in essence components of information science. Information science is a field associated with the preservation, storage and retrieval of information in a way that it remains useful. Digital artifacts should therefore abide by the standardized records management schedule which ensures the records available within the system are discarded off in time before creating clutter.

Analytical framework

The analytical framework adopted by this research world be a flexible one considering the comparative nature of the study requiring to contrast multiple datasets continually to attain a desired conclusion.

Background research

According to Geoff Walton et. al, most student within learning institutions are not conversant with knowledge stored within institutions such as archives and other centers of storing information within their respective countries if residence. The stance is supported by Ciriello et. al who posit that incorporation of innovation practices into digital artefacts is increasingly embracing technology hence the need for regularly updating the education of the users of such systems who entail information repository managers and users.

Research utility

Ultimately, a better understanding of how digital artefacts work would enable knowledge workers as well as researchers better utilize digital functions in the storage of intellectual property. The study would additionally serve students seeking to access research papers from their peers alike and streamline the functions designated to knowledge workers. Cumulatively, the study focused on the utility of the function digitally artifacting would streamline the efforts of every person involved in the line of either managing or retrieving data from information repositories.
